Do You Know this about patrick cowley?

  • Next to Giorgio Moroder, he is one of the most influential architects of Electronic Dance Music.

  • He got his start in New York, where he proved himself to be a successful drummer with local amateur bands. He later went to San Francisco to join City College to study music and learn how to play synthesizers.

  • Cowley met SF based musician Sylvester in 1978. Sylvester invited Cowley to join his studio band after listening to some of his early synthesizer recordings. He played on Sylvester's 1978 album Step II, which included the hits "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" and Dance (Disco Heat)." He also became a part of his live band and accompanied him on several world tours.

  • Cowley's best hits included "Menergy," a celebratory homage of the gay club scene, and "Megatron Man," which got to #1 and #2 respectively on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Party chart in 1981.

  • Also, in 1981 Cowley was paid tributes at the Menergy parties at "The End Up" in San Francisco.

  • He also composed and produced the dance single "Right on Target" for San Francisco artist Paul Parker, which stood at #1 on the Billboard dance chart in 1982.

  • Cowley also performed a 15'45" extended remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love," which is now a collector's item.

  • Mind Warp, his final album, was composed during the increasing effects of his HIV infection and its songs reflected his growing indifference to conventional reality as the disease spread.

  • Even though Cowley remained in the oblivion of many people's radar, he is still one of electronic dance music’s most essential trailblazers and an innovator behind hi-NRG music.

  • He composed music for gay porn that is right on par with all his other well-known works.
