  • The Sequence was the first all-female hip–hop group. They formed in Columbia, SC.

  • "Funk You Up" had a significant influence on Hip Hop culture, influencing future female rappers.

  • The three got discovered after rushing a Sugarhill Gang show and rapped for Sylvia Robinson.

  • Friends since childhood, the trio had sung in the choir and cheered in high school together; in fact, "Funk You Up" comes from an old cheer.

  • The group separated in 1985.

  • They toured the world with other Hip Hop pioneers like Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash, and The Furious Five.

  • The Sequence is America's first Southern rap group.

  • "Funk You Up" has been sampled by such artists as Dr. Dre's, “Keep Their Heads Ringin'", Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ice Cube, Flavor Flav, De La Soul, and even Bruno Mars, who got sued in 2017 for it.
